John Kizon is alive and still punching.

But two weeks ago, as he was urgently attended to by staff and paramedics on the forecourt of Sir Charles Gairdner hospital, that outcome was not certain.

As he had for the best part of three decades, the 56-year-old had not come quietly.

A late evening dash to the hospital led to Perth’s most recognisable ponytail crashing into a parked car, street signs and bollards.

The reports were grim — chest pains, cardiac arrest, critical condition.

Speaking this week for the first time since being released from hospital, the Northbridge identity wanted to put a few things straight.

“I never flatlined,” Mr Kizon said in an interview with Today Tonight.

“I have the documents from the EEG, and I never flatlined.
